Former Governor of Plateau state Senator Jonah Jang yesterday berated Governor Simon Lalong for supporting the grazing reserve.
In a statement yesterday 12th June, 2016 Jang said,
“For the Federal Government
which owns no cattle to connive with willing state governors to impose a
grazing reserve policy on the hapless Plateau citizens who have
suffered the brunt of rampaging herdsmen in the no distant past is not
only an abuse of their rights but an assault on their already battered
psyche.. Plateau people should rise up against any attempt to cede their land for grazing “.
Reacting swiftly, Governor Lalong said,
“This is an eloquent
testimony of Jang’s testimony of his “we” versus “them” classification
of citizens. We will not compulsorily take any land from anyone. The
issue of grazing reserves and ranches are options within the purview of
the customary law owners and local councils to volunteer “.
