Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang is mourning the loss of Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, who passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at 82.
Useni was a respected elder statesman and a distinguished military officer who served under former Head of State General Sani Abacha.
In a statement signed on his behalf by his director of Price and public affairs Gyang Bere, the governor described the demise of General Useni as a tremendous loss not only to his immediate family but also to the Nigeria Armed Forces, Plateau state, and the entire nation.
He praised Useni’s remarkable leadership and unwavering commitment to service, noting his enduring impact on Nigeria’s security and political landscape.
“Useni had a distinguished career, serving as Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, he ventured into politics and was elected Senator representing Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015”.
The Governor commended Useni’s life of dedication and selflessness, emphasizing his significant contributions to the military, politics, and community development. He described him as a man of compassion, generosity, and commitment to the well-being of others.
“On behalf of my family the government and the peace-loving people of Plateau State, I extend my deepest sympathies to the president the Nigerian armed forces the immediate family, and all those mourning the loss of this distinguished elder stateman” Gov Mutfwang.
