Members of the APC Plateau Southern Compatriots have sounded an alarm, expressing their apprehension regarding the potential nomination of Senator Nora Daduut as a minister under the leadership of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu. In a press statement read by Nanmang Danladi, the leader of the group, concerns were raised over the impact such an appointment could have on the party’s survival in the state.

The group praised President Tinubu for his swift response to the nation’s challenges, which has garnered support even from those who initially held opposing views. The statement emphasized the importance of helping the president succeed, highlighting his governing style rooted in justice, equity, accountability, and intellectualism.

However, the group urged President Tinubu, the national leadership of the APC, and the state leadership to reconsider the potential appointment of Professor Nora Dadut as a minister. They claimed that a careful review of Senator Dadut’s performance as a lawmaker in the 9th Assembly revealed her shortcomings as a party stalwart and political figure in the state. According to the group, she lacks a roadmap for national politics and has failed to attract the dividends of democracy necessary for the state’s development.

The group further alleged that Senator Daduut had no visible constituency projects, did not sponsor any bills, and failed to engage with stakeholders within the APC throughout her tenure. They criticized her for not delivering her ward/local government area for the party in the 2023 General Elections, as well as for her alleged failure to support party campaigns and activities. The statement claimed that Senator Dadut’s generosity extended primarily to her family members, and she exhibited a lack of capacity and competency.

Additionally, the group expressed concerns about the senator’s husband, noting his past association with the opposition party on the Plateau. They stated that he had held political meetings with the former Governor of the state, Jonah David Jang, prior to the recent elections.

While the group acknowledged that they were not opposed to Senator Dadut being appointed as an appointee of the President, they strongly objected to her appointment as a minister based on her relationship with Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, rather than on merit. Instead, they suggested that she could be considered for a simple appointment as an adviser to Sen. Oluremi Tinubu.

The press release concluded by listing several alleged actions and inactions by Senator Dadut during her time in office, including the dismissal of political appointees in her senatorial zone and the alleged diversion of campaign materials for personal use. The group claimed that she exhibited a “use and dump” mentality, neglecting those who supported her during her campaigns. They also accused her of disregarding party affairs and lacking people-oriented qualities.

In light of the current challenges facing Nigeria, the group stressed the need for selfless, experienced, and patriotic individuals to support President Tinubu’s vision, emphasizing that Senator Dadut did not possess the required attributes.
