Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has taken an early lead in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Mikang Local Government Area.
Results announced on Thursday at the APC Secretariat in Tunkus by the Returning Officer for the exercise, Hon. Muhammad Auwal Hamza, showed the governor maintaining a commanding advantage over his challenger, retired Navy Commodore Yilchini Jan Bida.
According to the figures released, a total of 6,446 voters were accredited for the primary election.
Governor Mutfwang secured 6,288 votes, while Bida polled 158 votes.
The results were declared in the presence of representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Department of State Services, and other security agencies monitoring the exercise.

Reacting to the outcome, Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly, Naanlong Daniel Gapyil, commended party members, electoral officials and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful process.
He described the outcome as a reflection of the support Governor Mutfwang enjoys in Mikang, citing ongoing projects and what he called inclusive leadership under the governor’s administration.
