Ruth Otabor, younger sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Phyna, has passed away following injuries sustained in a tragic accident involving a Dangote truck.

The family confirmed her death in a statement issued on Sunday, through Eko Solicitors & Advocates. According to the statement, Ruth died on Sunday, August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m.

“With a heavy heart, the family regrets to announce the passing on to glory of their daughter, sister, and mother on this 31st day of August, 2025, at about 06:30Hrs,” the statement read.

The accident occurred on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, just six days after Ruth’s graduation from the institution. Eyewitnesses recounted that the heavy-duty truck crushed her leg before a bystander managed to stop it. Despite undergoing an amputation, Ruth’s condition worsened until her passing.

Phyna had since been vocal about her sister’s ordeal, accusing the company of negligence and demanding accountability. Although Dangote Group admitted responsibility and pledged medical support and compensation, tensions rose after photos of Ruth’s injuries surfaced online, allegedly shared by company staff without the family’s consent.

News of Ruth’s death has sparked grief across social media, with fans, colleagues, and celebrities sending condolences while renewing calls for justice.

The family, however, has appealed for privacy during this difficult period. “The family is presently grieving and will appreciate to be given a private moment to mourn the departed. The funeral arrangement will be communicated to the public in due course,” the statement added.
