Peter Obi Urges Nigerians to Invest in Dangote Refinery

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has encouraged Nigerians to consider investing in the ongoing Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals.

Obi made the call in a statement shared on his X account on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, saying Nigerians at home and abroad had asked for his position on the ₦2.15 trillion public offer.

He said the IPO represents an opportunity for Nigerians to participate in owning a stake in one of the country’s major industrial assets.

The former governor also urged Nigerian businesses to invest in productive sectors of the economy, arguing that greater domestic investment could support economic growth and development.

The Dangote Refinery IPO, which opened on September 14, offers 4.1 billion shares at ₦525 per share, with a minimum subscription of 10 shares, equivalent to ₦5,250. The offer is scheduled to close on October 13, 2026.

The public offer has attracted significant interest from retail investors, with some digital investment platforms experiencing service disruptions following a surge in traffic.
