A leading member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter Obi, has indicated his intention to contest for the party’s presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi disclosed this while addressing supporters at a campaign event for ADC candidates in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections, held at the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).
In his remarks, the former presidential candidate made it clear that he is aiming for the top position in the party and would not accept a secondary role in its long-term political plans.
He linked the outcome of the AMAC election to his broader political ambition, urging party faithful and residents to support the ADC candidate, describing the poll as crucial to his political journey.
According to Obi, his participation in the upcoming elections is as a principal contender, not in a supporting capacity.
“This coming election, support us in AMAC; it will help me. Your support in AMAC is critical to our journey. I am involved and contesting the coming election as number one. When I come back, you will see. I assure you,” he said.
Meanwhile, Obi’s supporters, particularly members of the Obidient Movement, have intensified calls on the ADC leadership to adopt him as the party’s sole presidential standard-bearer for 2027.
However, the ADC is also home to other prominent politicians with presidential ambitions, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi.
