Political developments ahead of the 2027 general elections took a new turn after former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, reportedly emerged as the only aspirant to obtain the presidential nomination forms of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to sources cited by Vanguard, Obi was the sole contender who purchased the party’s Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms before the deadline for the sale of forms closed.
The development effectively positions the former Labour Party presidential candidate as the unopposed aspirant for the NDC presidential ticket ahead of the next general elections.
Although the party is yet to make an official public declaration on the matter, sources within the NDC reportedly confirmed that no other aspirant obtained the forms within the stipulated period.
The latest development is expected to further shape political discussions and alignments as parties begin preparations for the 2027 presidential contest.
Peter Obi, who served as governor of Anambra State, remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics following his strong performance in the 2023 presidential election.
