A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki, SAN, has scheduled the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s sole presidential aspirant for the 2027 general elections.
According to a statement issued by the faction, the screening is expected to hold on Tuesday, May 19, as part of the party’s preparations for the upcoming elections.
The statement noted that a 14-member committee has been constituted to conduct the screening exercise. Members of the panel include former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, Chief Olabode George, former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Dr. Abdul Bulama and Dr. Esther Uduehi.
Others listed on the committee are the Chairman of the PDP in Edo State, Tony Aziegbemi, Dr. Sunday Solari, while Chief Anicho Okoro will serve as the administrative secretary of the panel.
The PDP faction, which is reportedly backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, also disclosed that Jonathan recently completed his membership registration during the party’s fresh digital registration exercise directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
National Publicity Secretary of the faction, Ini Ememobong, had earlier confirmed the former president’s registration into the party.
In addition to the presidential screening, the party announced plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants and 112 governorship aspirants across the country.
The statement further revealed that 2,122 aspirants seeking seats in various State Houses of Assembly would also undergo screening beginning Tuesday in their respective states.
According to the party, the nationwide screening exercise is scheduled to commence at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2026.
The Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) also released the names of members to serve on the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels.
The party stated that the exercise is being conducted in line with its guidelines and timetable for the 2027 general elections.
