A male passenger has died after reportedly becoming unruly during a Kenya Airways flight from Nairobi, Kenya, to Lagos, Nigeria.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the passenger allegedly became restless and aggressive while the aircraft was in flight. According to information from the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), he attempted to gain access to the cockpit before later trying to open the aircraft’s rear door.
Other passengers and crew members reportedly intervened and restrained the man to prevent him from causing further disruption or endangering those on board. Videos circulating online showed passengers holding the man down during the incident.
The passenger was subsequently brought to Lagos, but was reportedly declared dead upon arrival at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The NCAA said the police had taken over the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The cause of the passenger’s death has not been officially disclosed. It also remains unclear what triggered his behaviour during the flight or why he attempted to access the cockpit and open the aircraft door.
Kenya Airways had not, at the time of the initial reports, publicly provided further details on the incident. Authorities are expected to investigate both the events on board the aircraft and the circumstances surrounding the passenger’s death.
