Mutilated Body Found Behind Pankshin Market as Plateau Records Fresh Attacks

An unidentified man has been found dead behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, with some parts of his body reportedly removed.

The corpse was discovered by residents on Tuesday morning, who immediately alerted security personnel. Police officers subsequently arrived at the scene and evacuated the remains to the General Hospital, Pankshin, where efforts were made to establish the identity of the deceased.

A community source, Panshak Rogo, said the deceased could not immediately be identified because some sensitive parts of the body had been removed. He appealed to residents whose relatives may have been reported missing to contact the police to assist with identification.

Rogo also called on anyone with information about the deceased or circumstances surrounding his death to report to the police.

The discovery has heightened concerns among residents, particularly coming amid renewed attacks in parts of Plateau State. At least 13 people were reportedly killed in separate attacks in Jos South, Mangu and Riyom Local Government Areas on Sunday night.

Nine of the victims were passengers travelling to Jos when suspected attackers opened fire on their vehicle at Dungus in Jos South. Two people were also reportedly killed in Vodni, Pushit District, in Mangu, while another two were killed in a separate attack at Tahoos in Riyom. Several others sustained gunshot injuries and were receiving treatment in hospitals.

As of the time of filing the reports, the Plateau State Police Command had not publicly confirmed the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body or provided further details on the recent attacks.
