Outrage has erupted in Lagos after the proprietor of a secondary school reportedly absconded with examination fees collected from students for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), leaving many candidates unable to sit for the ongoing exams.
The school, said to have been established in 2005, allegedly failed to complete the registration of dozens of students before the registration deadline closed in March 2026.
The development has thrown affected students and their families into distress, with several videos circulating online showing emotional scenes as parents and candidates lament their situation.
In one of the viral clips, a voiceover accused the school proprietor of fleeing after collecting WAEC registration fees without processing the students’ registration with the West African Examinations Council.
Many parents reportedly borrowed money to pay the fees, hoping to secure their children’s future, only to later discover that the payments were never remitted for the examination registration.
With the official registration window already closed, affected students are now being forced to consider registering as private candidates, an option that comes with additional financial costs many families may find difficult to afford.
The incident has sparked widespread reactions online, with many calling for authorities to investigate the matter and ensure justice for the affected students and parents.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the police nor the West African Examinations Council had released an official statement regarding the incident.
