Osogbo is aglow with colour and celebration as thousands of worshippers, tourists, and culture lovers converge today, August 8, for the grand finale of the annual Osun-Osogbo Festival.
The centuries-old celebration, rooted in Yoruba spirituality and heritage, is one of Nigeria’s most iconic traditional festivals. This year’s edition, which began on July 28, climaxes with a sacred procession to the Osun Sacred Grove, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
At the heart of the festivities is the revered Arugba — a virgin maiden who carries offerings to the Osun River in a symbolic ritual believed to renew the ancient covenant between the people and the goddess Osun.
To ensure safety, a strong security presence has been deployed as devotees and visitors partake in the spiritual and cultural highlights of the day.
