Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been named captain of the Nigerian national team for their semi-final clash against Morocco’s Atlas Lions.

Osimhen will lead the team in the encounter following the suspension of regular captain Wilfred Ndidi, who is unavailable due to card accumulation.

Ndidi picked up his second caution of the tournament during Nigeria’s quarter-final victory over Tunisia, having earlier been booked in the Round of 16 match against the Mambas of Mozambique.

The suspension paved the way for Osimhen, who was appointed vice-captain of the Super Eagles on the eve of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, to assume the captain’s armband.

The Napoli striker has prior experience in the role, having captained the team in their final group-stage match against Uganda.

Nigeria will face Morocco in the semi-final as they continue their push for continental glory at the ongoing AFCON.
