The Plateau Bloggers and online media Association today paid a courtesy visit to the headquarters of Operation Safe Haven OPSH in Jos, Plateau State.
The group led by the Association’s Chairman, Cmr Friday Bako, Said that the group was a fine collection of reputable bloggers and online media practitioners with vast followership within and outside the state, he said the visit was to foster a harmonious working relationship with the security body as it affects information management and dissemination.
Friday Bako commended the commandant OPSH and his men for the many sacrifices in foiling attacks and efforts in restoring peace on the Plateau. He further called on the OPSH to ensure the complete restoration of peace so as to boost economic activities in the state. He said that the Plateau Bloggers and Online Media association is willing to use its medium in promoting peace and foster understanding thereby providing objective news reports.
The Commandant OPSH, Major General CC Okonkwo appreciated the group for their presence and willingness to push for peace as it concerns all. He noted that Bloggers and online media practitioners are major stakeholders when it comes to the promotion of peace because the medium is the most visited by youths and it would be of utmost importance if reports both online and offline were objective and factual and reliable. He said that most developing societies have the peculiar issues of insecurity as criminal minds abound in all parts of the world as such the media should not be quick to brandish criminal acts as ethnic or religious while investigations were on.
The commandant stated that the OPSH has not rested on its oars as to the decrease in communal attacks and is working assiduously to tackle the incessant killings within communities perpetrated by criminals. He noted that the security operatives have opened their doors to communities and the media to solving conflicts as such people should desist from insightful comments that will rouse further tension. He said that the OPSH will partner the group to further the cause of peace on the plateau.
