The Amotekun security outfit in Ondo State has deported at least 114 individuals, mostly from northern Nigeria, over alleged illegal entry into the state’s forests.

Ondo State Amotekun Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, said the individuals were intercepted in two trucks while heading to forested areas, including Ore and Ofosu.

Adeleye, while addressing the media, noted that security agencies had intensified operations to prevent unauthorized persons from settling in the state’s forests.

Adeleye revealed that several weapons, including locally made firearms, were recovered from the individuals, who allegedly used the forests as hideouts for criminal activities. A profiling exercise showed that apart from three individuals, none could explain their final destination or purpose in the forests.

The Amotekun commander emphasized that while freedom of movement is a constitutional right, it must be exercised for legitimate purposes. He noted that the state governor had ordered their immediate return to their respective states of origin.

During the press briefing, Adeleye displayed some of the confiscated weapons. Meanwhile, the leader of the Hausa community in Ondo State, Bala Umaru, commended the government for prioritizing security and ensuring the safe return of the individuals to their home states.

The individuals have since been transported back to various locations across the country.
