Tragedy struck in Lokoja on Monday as an articulated vehicle rammed into a Federal University Lokoja (FUL) shuttle bus, killing six students and the driver.
The accident occurred at about 2:30 p.m. near the Abuja axis, according to eyewitness reports. The truck, carrying wood and jerry cans of palm oil, reportedly lost control before crushing the school bus, which was filled with students heading to campus.
“Unfortunately, the driver lost control and rammed into the FUL shuttle bus already filled up with students and was about to convey them to school.
“The shuttle bus was crushed by the articulated vehicle,” the source said.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC,were on ground to rescued some victims that were trapped under the articulated vehicle.
The Kogi State Sector Commandant of the FRSC, Samuel Oyedeji who led his team to the scene of the accident could not confirm the numbers of casualties in the accident.
The sector commander said the bodies have been deposited in the morgue for identification while those that were injured have been moved to Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja, and Kogi State Specialist Hospital for treatment.
Students have taken to Facebook to mourn the deceased while releasing some photos identifying some of them.
