The Ogun State Police Command has relaunched a traffic enforcement operation across all 20 Local Government Areas of the state to tackle traffic violations, improve road safety and ensure smoother movement on major highways.

The operation is targeting motorists whose violations could endanger road users or create security challenges along major roads.

According to the police, officers will enforce regulations against driving against traffic, reckless driving, misuse of emergency sirens and the use of vehicles with missing, fake or concealed number plates.

The operation will also target motorists driving without valid licences, overloaded vehicles and indiscriminate parking that obstructs the free flow of traffic.

The Commissioner of Police has directed commanders across the state to ensure that the exercise is properly coordinated and effectively implemented.

He ordered that all officers involved in the operation be adequately briefed and closely supervised to ensure that enforcement is carried out professionally and with respect for the rights of members of the public.

The commissioner also warned officers against using the operation as an opportunity for misconduct.

He prohibited extortion, illegal detention, harassment, intimidation and the wrongful impoundment of vehicles or documents.

According to the command, any officer found demanding or accepting bribes, intimidating motorists or engaging in other forms of misconduct will face disciplinary action.

Supervising officers will also be held accountable for the conduct of personnel under their command.

The police urged motorists, transport operators and other road users to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with officers during the enforcement exercise.

Members of the public were equally advised not to offer money or other inducements to police officers in an attempt to evade sanctions for traffic violations.

The command said it remained committed to conducting the operation professionally while working with residents and other stakeholders to improve road safety and maintain order across Ogun State.
