Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has donated N25 million to three institutions in Bauchi State to support education and infrastructure development.

The beneficiaries include Madarasatul Intisharul Islamiyya School, which received N5 million, while Milikiya College of Nursing Sciences and Thomas Moore College of Health Technology each got N10 million.

In addition to the donations, Obi awarded a university scholarship to Amina Abubakar Ahmed, a student of the Islamiyya school, in recognition of her outstanding academic performance.

During a visit to the Islamiyya school on Thursday, Obi commended the school’s management for effectively utilizing a previous N5 million donation, noting that it had been used to provide essential learning facilities such as furniture and instructional materials.

“I am encouraged by the prudent use of earlier support to improve learning conditions. This level of accountability is commendable,” he said.

He explained that his visit was not only to reconnect with the institution but also to expand support through scholarships for deserving students, stressing the importance of equal educational opportunities.

“Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and contribute meaningfully to society,” he added.

Obi also raised concerns over insecurity, describing it as a major challenge affecting citizens’ wellbeing, particularly that of children.

“Our children need a safe environment to learn and dream. Their future should be nurtured with purpose, not constrained by fear,” he said, while announcing an additional N5 million donation to support scholarships and development projects at the school.

Earlier, the proprietor of the Islamiyya school, Adamu Umar Jibrin, praised Obi’s continued support, noting that previous contributions had significantly improved the school’s learning environment. He also urged greater attention to security as part of broader national priorities.

At Milikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Obi lauded the institution’s management for judiciously using an earlier N10 million grant to upgrade its ICT centre. He emphasized the need to expand health training institutions across Nigeria to address the shortage of healthcare professionals.

To further this goal, he announced another N10 million donation to support indigent students pursuing health-related training. The college provost expressed appreciation and assured that the funds would be properly utilized.

Speaking on his earlier visit to Thomas Moore College of Health Technology, Obi said his support was driven by the need to promote specialised education, especially in the health sector.

“Institutions like this are vital, as the country requires more trained health workers,” he noted.

Impressed by the institution’s development, he also announced an additional N10 million donation for scholarships and infrastructure.

In his remarks, Rev. Dr. Hillary Dachellem, proprietor and bishop of the Bauchi Catholic Diocese, commended Obi’s generosity, stating that previous interventions had significantly boosted the college’s academic and physical growth. He assured that the new funds would be applied effectively to sustain ongoing progress.
