Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has suggested that the long-running political feud between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar could continue for the rest of their lives.
In a post shared on X on Saturday, August 1, Sani remarked that the rivalry, which began more than two decades ago, has outlived an entire generation.
“The Obj/Atiku feud began when Gen Zs were in nursery and primary school. It’s continuing even when that generation has graduated from universities, married and had children. It’s likely going to continue until one of them is gone, and the other will pay a glowing tribute. Since Atiku threw a devastating bomb at Obj, he has been receiving Obj’s hypersonic missiles for two decades,” he wrote.
Sani’s comments come amid renewed exchanges between the two political figures after Obasanjo recently described his decision to pick Atiku as his running mate in the 1999 presidential election as the biggest mistake of his presidency.
In response, Atiku accused the former president of attempting to rewrite history and maintained that he has no regrets over opposing Obasanjo’s controversial third-term agenda, saying he chose to defend Nigeria’s Constitution over personal loyalty.
The latest exchange has reignited public attention on one of Nigeria’s longest-running political rivalries, which dates back to the end of their administration in 2007.
