Nurse Dies After Asthma Attack at Ogun Hospital as Colleague Raises Alarm Over Alleged Negligence

A nurse, identified as Taiwo Godwin Ayodeji, has reportedly died following an asthma attack at the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Aro, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, amid allegations of medical negligence by a colleague.

According to a report by SaharaReporters, Ayodeji, who was reportedly a known asthma patient, developed breathing difficulties while playing football and was taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

A colleague who witnessed the incident alleged that Ayodeji was placed on oxygen equipment, but the oxygen supply was not switched on despite his worsening condition.

The eyewitness further claimed that the nurse’s condition deteriorated before medical personnel attended to him, with his pulse reportedly becoming weak and his pupils dilating. The source also alleged that a doctor encountered difficulties accessing his vein and that attempts to secure his airway were unsuccessful before he was pronounced dead.

The colleague, who called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, alleged that Ayodeji’s death was the second reported case of a nurse from the same school dying at the facility this year.

As of the time of the report, the school authorities had yet to issue an official response to the incident. The allegations have not been independently verified, and no official findings establishing medical negligence have been reported.
