Nigerian Rap Pioneer Lord of Ajasa Becomes US Citizen

Veteran Nigerian rapper Olusegun Osaniyi, popularly known as Lord of Ajasa, has officially become a citizen of the United States.

The pioneer of mainstream Yoruba-language rap announced the milestone on his social media page on Wednesday, October 7, sharing photographs and videos from the occasion.

In one of the videos, the rapper was seen holding his US citizenship certificate alongside an American flag as he celebrated the achievement. He also shared a photograph of himself and his wife posing with the flag.

Lord of Ajasa, who rose to prominence in the early 2000s, is widely regarded as one of the early artistes who helped popularise indigenous-language rap in Nigeria. His music, including songs such as Ma Yi Lo, Le Fenu So and Esha Lo Bade, remains associated with the early development of Yoruba hip-hop.

His announcement attracted congratulatory messages from fellow entertainers and music industry figures, including rapper 9ice and producer ID Cabasa. 9ice wrote, “Congrats apase1,” while ID Cabasa also congratulated the veteran rapper.

Lord of Ajasa’s US citizenship marks another personal milestone for the veteran musician, who continues to maintain a presence among fans of Nigerian indigenous hip-hop.
