Former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has said Nigeria did not collapse during his time in office, expressing confidence that the country will remain united despite its current challenges.
Gowon made the remarks on Tuesday in Abuja during the public presentation of his 859-page autobiography titled No Going Back: My Life of Duty and Allegiance.
Speaking at the event, he said Nigerians often overcomplicate straightforward issues by introducing complex and unclear solutions, a trend he warned can create unnecessary tension in the country.
The former military leader added that his memoir is intended to correct misconceptions about his time in power and to provide clearer context on key decisions and events during his leadership.
He expressed optimism that the book would help bridge understanding gaps between his administration’s legacy and public perception, while reinforcing his belief in Nigeria’s continued stability.
