It is often said that; “youths are the leaders of tomorrow”, but any youth
that would be a leader tomorrow must be empowered. To be a youth is good but
empowering the youth is key. Empowerment is the means of encouraging or
assisting somebody.
Youth empowerment is the means through which the youths of
any country are assisted to succeed in life. It is shameful that when youth
empowerment is mentioned, people think that it is only the function of the
government to empower the youths. This is not so, as an individual can
encourage/assist oneself and even empower the people within his/her community.
The definition of a youth by UNESCO, refers to any individual who is within
the age of 15 to 35 years irrespective of gender or religion. It is also
important to note that these are the most vital and productive years for most
individuals judging from the age range. Youthful age is used to build and
rearrange any individual and help prepare such for our society, therefore this
period can either be productive or wasted depending on various factors including;
personality, family background, education, environment, society etc.
With youth empowerment, the future prosperity of any nation is secured
because, these are the people that are the people that will take care of many
offices and functions of a country in the future. There are also those who are
going to manage top offices in the future in accordance with the popular
statement “the youths are the leaders of tomorrow”. Everybody who is now a
leader was once a youth and some of his/her actions later in life will be a
function of what has been built from his/her youth.

without understanding that the formula or solution is in youth empowerment. If
a nation wants to fight crime, it should start with empowering youths. Many
youths take part in illegal activities because they were not empowered morally,
academically as well as financially.

from the acquired skill he got through the empowerment gained, he can expand
his business and employ more citizens which in return help in solving
unemployment challenges in the country.
Helps in poverty eradication: Empowering the youths with skills can go a long way in
reducing poverty percentage of many societies. When a youth learns skills, he
can use the skills learnt to feed, assist others, and even invest for future
use. When any youth is empowered financially, he uses the profit he makes from
the business he does to sustain himself and his household.
Builds good educational standard: Empowering the youths academically accelerates the spirit
of patriotism in educational sector. The empowered youth knows the importance
of education. This is why many individuals issue scholarship to students,
because they understand the value of education due to the empowerment which
were given to them academically.
For good governance: Youths grow to become tomorrow’s leaders, with youth
empowerment on leadership, embezzlement of public fund by top government
officials become history. Through empowering the youths on leadership skills,
they understand the danger of fund embezzlement.
Technological development: Many inventions today are because the youths were
empowered. They are encouraged to use their initiatives to bring out what will
help the society. Youth empowerment increases and improves technological
standards as agreed by technophiles.
Security:Youth empowerment results to national protection. When the
youths are empowered, they become patriots and in turn they will safe guard its
nation.

The role of empowering a youth seems
to be the responsibility of the government but even at that it takes a
determined youth with all the right tools to rise up to societal importance and
usefulness. It is no longer news that most world influencers have used the
little or no available empowerment to be better persons for their society. Self
empowerment is key and comes before any type of empowerment, Just like a child
given birth to, still has the responsibility of supporting its mother by
struggling to survive. Youths of today are elders of tomorrow and the best way
to be a better elder for tomorrow is to strive to be a better Youth for today.

Self-will is key to achieving this type of empowerment despite the disappointing environment and challenging societal structures that seek to limit us, we can always chose to be positive rather than make excuses and use that to perpetrate crime. Finally it is very important to note that life in itself cannot exist with out certain amount of challenges which at some point comes as a test or prove how we handle situations.
