The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has described the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) as a strong platform for national integration and unity in Nigeria.

Mutfwang made the remark on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members at the orientation camp in Plateau State.

Represented at the event by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Kenneth Buenyen, the governor said corps members are not just participants in a one-year service scheme but important drivers of social and economic development as well as ambassadors of national cohesion.

He urged the newly sworn-in corps members to abide by the rules of the scheme and actively engage in all orientation activities, stressing the importance of discipline, patriotism, self-reliance, and leadership development during their service year.

“Uphold the core values of discipline, patriotism, and selfless service, and perform your duties with diligence,” he said.

The governor also cautioned them against spreading misinformation and divisive narratives, advising them to remain responsible and positive contributors to national unity.

He assured the corps members of the state government’s commitment to their safety and welfare, noting that his administration was working closely with security agencies to maintain peace and stability across Plateau State.

Earlier, the NYSC State Coordinator, Jonathan Yavala, encouraged the corps members to fully participate in camp activities, especially the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, which he said would prepare them for life after service.

Yavala also commended the Plateau State Government for its continued support for the NYSC scheme.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), a total of 1,773 corps members were registered for the batch.
