The National Assembly has introduced new security restrictions barring senators, members of the House of Representatives, and their aides from accessing the long corridor in front of the office of the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
The directive was contained in an internal memo issued on Thursday by the Office of the Serjeant-at-Arms at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.
According to the memo, dated October 2 and signed by Brig-Gen. Etido E. Ekpo (retd), lawmakers and their aides are now restricted from the White House lobby, which includes the Senate Chamber, the gangway, and the corridor leading to the Senate President’s office.
The circular, addressed to the Chairman of Senate Services, further instructed senators to inform their aides and personal assistants of the new security measures.
“All aides or personal assistants would not be allowed into the said corridor,” the memo stated.
The development is part of reinforced security protocols around the Senate chamber and the Senate President’s office.
