A bride from Deeper Life Bible Church, Akinmoyewa Mercy Oluwaseun, has responded to criticism of her wedding dress after photographs from her wedding sparked mixed reactions on social media.
Mercy, who got married on Saturday, October 10, 2026, faced criticism from some conservative Christians and church members who described her wedding gown as immodest and too revealing.
Responding to the backlash on Sunday night, October 11, the bride defended her choice of outfit, insisting that the dress was fully lined and that she had deliberately chosen the design.
“For your information, I wore a fully lined mermaid wedding dress. I was very intentional about it. I preach modesty but make una try to dey know fashion small small,” she wrote.
Her response has generated further discussions online about Christian modesty, wedding fashion and whether contemporary bridal designs can align with conservative religious values.
While some social media users criticised the outfit, others praised the bride’s appearance and argued that a fitted mermaid gown could still be modest, depending on its construction and coverage.
The controversy has renewed conversations about personal expression, fashion choices and differing interpretations of modesty within Christian communities.
