The Middle Belt Forum (MBF) has expressed support for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi’s pledge to serve only a single term if elected president in 2027.
Reacting to Obi’s recent statement, MBF National President, Dr. Bitrus Pogu, said the region has no reason to doubt the former Anambra State governor’s sincerity, citing his record of honouring commitments.
“We believe Peter Obi is a man of honour, and we believe that if he gets the win and promises something, he will keep to it,” Pogu said. “His assurance is not a political gimmick to win over the region but a commitment rooted in honour and integrity.”
While noting that the number of terms a leader serves should ideally be determined by the constitution and the electorate, Pogu maintained that the Middle Belt trusts Obi’s word.
“But that issue is for the future. For now, as a people, we believe Peter Obi because we know he is a man of integrity and honour who keeps his words,” he added.
