Manchester City have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign midfielder Elliot Anderson in a club-record transfer worth £116 million.

The 23-year-old England international, who is currently part of Thomas Tuchel’s squad at the FIFA World Cup, is expected to complete his move to the Etihad Stadium after undergoing a medical.

Sources close to Manchester City said the deal is a fixed fee of £116 million with no additional performance-related add-ons. While it falls short of the reported £125 million paid by Liverpool F.C. to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United F.C. last summer, it surpasses the previous record for a British player, eclipsing Declan Rice’s £105 million move from West Ham United F.C. to Arsenal F.C. in 2023.

The transfer also becomes Manchester City’s most expensive signing, overtaking the £100 million the club paid for Jack Grealish in 2021.

Anderson joined Nottingham Forest from Newcastle United in 2024 for £35 million and went on to make 88 appearances for the club, scoring four goals.

During his time at Forest, he helped the club secure a seventh-place Premier League finish in the 2024–25 season before they finished 16th the following campaign, while also reaching the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.

The midfielder is set to become Manchester City’s first major signing since the departure of Pep Guardiola at the end of last season.

Former Chelsea F.C. manager Enzo Maresca is widely expected to be confirmed as Guardiola’s successor in the coming days.
