Man Alleges Maltreatment, Forced Internet Fraud at Young Man’s Residence

A man has accused a young man of allegedly subjecting him to maltreatment and preventing him from leaving his residence, where he claimed he was forced to engage in internet fraud.

According to the man, the young man allegedly took possession of his mobile phone, which he valued at about ₦350,000, and later sold it for ₦90,000.

He further alleged that he was denied food, restricted from leaving the residence and compelled to take an oath. He claimed that he was also threatened with death and warned that he would suffer consequences if he left without repaying money he allegedly owed the young man.

The man said he eventually managed to escape from the residence and subsequently recounted his experience in a video shared online.

However, the young man accused of the alleged maltreatment has denied the claims. In a separate account, he said the man was introduced to him by his wife’s brother as someone who needed accommodation and work.

He claimed that the man stayed in his residence for about six months, during which he provided him with food and other necessities and gave him a computer for work. He also denied locking him up or preventing him from leaving.

On the phone, the accused said the man had asked him to help sell it to raise money for personal issues. He claimed the device was an old iPhone 11 with a weak battery and that he eventually sold it for ₦90,000.

Both accounts have been shared online, with the circumstances surrounding the allegations yet to be independently established.
