Lionel Messi has taken his career goal tally to 930 after scoring a stunning free-kick in Inter Miami’s 2-2 draw against San Diego FC in Major League Soccer.
The Argentine superstar found the net in the 24th minute to cancel out Anders Dreyer’s opener for San Diego, who had taken the lead in the 12th minute.
Messi’s free-kick came after he was fouled just outside the penalty area. The 39-year-old curled his left-footed effort over the wall, with the ball clipping the post before crossing the goal line.
The strike was Messi’s 20th MLS goal of the 2026 season and the 75th free-kick goal of his professional career. It also took his tally for Inter Miami to 101 goals, just four days after he scored his 100th goal for the club in their 2-0 Campeones Cup victory over Cruz Azul.
Inter Miami completed the comeback in the 74th minute when Luis Suárez put the hosts ahead to make it 2-1.
However, San Diego fought back and Dreyer scored his second goal of the night in the 82nd minute to restore parity and earn the visitors a point.
The result extended Inter Miami’s run of consecutive MLS draws to four. The club now has 46 points from 26 matches, with 12 wins, four defeats and 10 draws.
Despite the draw, Messi’s latest goal added another milestone to an already remarkable career as he continues to close in on the 1,000-goal mark.
