Best Teacher Honoured with Pilgrimage Reward

Mr. Nanbel Nimlang, a classroom teacher from Mban, emerged as the overall Best Teacher following a rigorous multi-stage assessment supervised by an 11-member committee comprising representatives of the traditional council, former education secretaries and zonal education officers.

Education Secretary of Langtang North LEA, Mrs. Tabitha Wazhi, said the competition progressed from school-level screenings to zonal evaluations involving 14 schools before producing three finalists and an overall winner.

She noted that the initiative has already improved teacher punctuality, strengthened classroom delivery and restored healthy professional competition among schools.

In recognition of excellence, Hon. Tyem awarded Nimlang a fully sponsored two-week pilgrimage to Israel, describing the gesture as a deliberate policy tool to institutionalise excellence and inspire innovation in teaching.

“This is not just a reward; it is a strategy to build a performance-driven culture within our basic education system,” the chairman said.

Motorcycles Approved to Improve School Supervision

To strengthen monitoring and support for schools in hard-to-reach areas, the chairman approved five motorcycles for the LEA to enhance mobility for supervisory officers.

The symbolic presentation was performed by Plateau South leader and senatorial aspirant, Napoleon Bali, who commended the initiative and described it as visionary and replicable. He also pledged to sponsor the award-winning teacher’s Master’s degree programme.

Stakeholders observed that the structured reward system positions Langtang North as a model for improving education standards through motivation and accountability.

Council Distributes 15 Motorcycles to Security Agencies

In a separate intervention to strengthen safety, Hon. Tyem presented 15 motorcycles to security agencies operating within the local government to enhance rapid response and surveillance.

Beneficiaries include the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigerian Correctional Service, vigilante groups and other security outfits.

Tyem explained that the intervention followed consultations with service chiefs amid concerns over petty theft and motorcycle snatching in parts of the LGA.

“While Langtang North remains relatively peaceful, we will not be complacent. These motorcycles will improve mobility, especially in areas where patrol vehicles cannot easily access,” he said.

He emphasized that the terrain poses operational challenges for conventional patrol vehicles, making motorcycles a strategic tool for surveillance and rapid response.

Security Agencies Commend Initiative

Chief Security Officer to the Chairman, Julfa Joel, said the intervention resulted from strategic engagements with security stakeholders, where mobility gaps were identified.

Divisional Police Officer CSP Benjamin B. Aboi assured residents that the motorcycles would be effectively deployed to strengthen security operations.

Community Applauds Development Efforts

The events were attended by local government officials, service chiefs, traditional leaders and community stakeholders, who commended the administration’s commitment to education and security.

Observers say the combined interventions signal a shift toward performance-driven education, structured supervision and proactive security management in Langtang North.

With improved teacher motivation, enhanced monitoring and strengthened security presence, the council is taking decisive steps to improve learning outcomes and safeguard communities.
