The Labour Party has responded to growing speculation about the possibility of its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returning to the party.
Speaking at a meeting of the Usman-led National Working Committee (NWC) on Tuesday, the party’s National Secretary, Darlington Okocha, described Obi as “a man of principle,” suggesting that a return to the Labour Party was unlikely.
“For him to have left the Labour Party, I don’t see him as somebody that will come back again. He’s quite principled,” Okocha stated.
He noted that Obi’s departure to another political platform was a decision made after careful consideration and added that the party has since wished him well in his new political journey.
Okocha further emphasized that the Labour Party remains strong under its current leadership, stressing that integrity remains central to the party’s operations.
“We have a competent and capable national leader. Integrity matters in everything we do,” he said, while commending Obi for maintaining his principles.
He added that discussions about Obi’s possible return should be set aside, given the party’s confidence in its present leadership structure.
