Over Death His Aunt And Her Six Children

Mallam Auwal, the father of the prime suspect in the killing of a housewife and her six children in Kano State, has called on the government to execute his son rather than keep him in prison at public expense.

The suspect, identified as Umar, is accused of leading the attack that resulted in the deaths of Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children at their residence in the Dorayi Chiranchi area of Kano.

The incident has triggered widespread public outrage, with many Nigerians demanding swift prosecution of all suspects arrested in connection with the crime. President Bola Tinubu, in a statement issued over the weekend, condemned the killings and directed security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation.

Speaking during a radio interview, Mallam Auwal dissociated himself from his son, describing him as “useless to society,” and insisting that he should face the maximum punishment.

“What he did to my younger sister and her six children is condemnable. I distance myself completely from him. I don’t even want time wasted on prosecution. People like Umar should not be kept in prison and fed with taxpayers’ money,” he said.

He further commended the police for their handling of the case, stating that he had already “sacrificed” his son and that neither he nor Umar’s mother would attend court proceedings during the trial.

Umar, who remains in police custody, is accused of killing his aunt, Fatima Abubakar, and her children—Maimuna (17), Aisha (16), Bashir (13), Abubakar (10), Faruk (7), and Abdussalam (18 months)—on Saturday, January 17.

Police authorities have confirmed that the suspect confessed to the killings and also admitted involvement in a recent attack in Tudun Yola, where two housewives were killed and a house was set on fire.
