The Kaduna State Police Command has arraigned 24 suspects before a Magistrate Court sitting at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Junction in connection with the mob killing of a woman in Maraban Jos, Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the suspects were charged following investigations into the death of Malama Ummulkhair Usman, who was allegedly attacked by an angry mob over false accusations of child theft.

According to the police, the victim, an Islamiyya school teacher, was lynched after being removed from police custody by the mob.

Hassan stated that the suspects are facing charges bordering on criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, destruction of public and police property, and culpable homicide.

“The arraignment followed a comprehensive investigation into the incident of June 21, 2026, where the victim was killed by a violent mob after being removed from police custody,” the statement said.

During the court proceedings, the matter was mentioned and subsequently adjourned to July 21, 2026, for further hearing.

The court also ordered that all 24 suspects be remanded in a correctional facility pending the determination of the case.

The police spokesperson further revealed that more than 100 additional suspects are still under investigation for their alleged involvement in the incident and may face prosecution if found culpable.

The Command condemned mob violence and jungle justice, warning that individuals who take the law into their own hands would be arrested and prosecuted.

“The Command strongly condemns mob action and jungle justice. We warn that anyone who takes the law into their own hands will be arrested and prosecuted according to the law,” Hassan stated.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in Kaduna State, Muhammad Rabiu, has assured residents of the Command’s commitment to securing justice for the deceased and maintaining law and order across the state.

The Commissioner also urged members of the public to channel criminal complaints and grievances through lawful authorities rather than resorting to violence.
