An unidentified woman accused of attempting to abduct a seven-year-old boy was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob in Agbarho community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, on Wednesday, September 24, 2025.

Eyewitnesses told Vanguard that the suspect had allegedly concealed the child inside a sack while clutching a Bible in one hand. Suspicious residents reportedly stopped her along Ekwvere Road and demanded she reveal the sack’s contents.

“When the bag was forced open, they found a seven-year-old child in it. The crowd shouted, and it quickly attracted a large gathering,” a community source said.

The mob then descended on the woman, beating her before placing a used tyre around her neck and setting her on fire.

The gruesome incident has heightened tension in Agbarho, which has faced persistent reports of missing children. Residents claim that more than 30 children have disappeared from the community in the past year.

Just last week, a man in his 20s was reportedly apprehended for allegedly attempting to abduct a child and was handed over to the police.

“This lady was unlucky as the mob opted for instant justice, fearing she might be released if handed over to the police. The crowd probably set her ablaze to send a clear message to child abductors that Agbarho is no longer a safe ground,” another source said.
