The Plateau State Police Command has summoned Corps members
who served as Presiding Officers in last Saturday’s elections in Tudun
Wada/Kabong Ward of Jos North Local Government Area.
According
to several sources, the Corps members are expected to report to the
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department of the Command at its
Jos Headquarters today by 8am.
A copy of the invitation
text message purportedly sent to one of the NYSC members reads, “Good
evening PO, I am directed to ask you to come to police CIID jos tomorrow
by 8am.”
Although the Command’s Public Relations
Officer, DSP Tyopev Terna said he was unaware of the summon when
contacted, the Officer that sent the invite from the CIID, identified as
DSP Gana J.J. confirmed it to be true.
The Corps
members were being invited to verify their signatures on the result
sheets from the elections they conducted last Saturday, he said.
Most of the affected Corps members have however expressed fear that they were being invited to be victimized.
A
few of them who took part in the polls have publicly claimed the
elections in the affected Ward ended in favour of the opposition Peoples
Democratic Party.
The Independent National Electoral
Commission has however withheld the results from the Ward which has over
90,000 registered voters.
The votes for the
Presidential polls in the PDP stronghold were rejected by the Collation
Officer for Jos North for not being eligible enough and not being
scripted on the appropriate forms.
The Senatorial and
House of Representatives election results which were said to have been
properly documented and filed have however been kept from public view.
A
meeting of stakeholders was summoned yesterday to decide the fate of
candidates who stood in the polls but no decision was reached.
Rumours
however filtered in towards dusk yesterday that the State Governor,
Simon Lalong had colluded with the State Police authorities to force the
results in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The final decision on the election results is expected to be reached by the end of today.
