The Executive Chairman of Jos North Local Government Council, Barr. John Kyohroh Christopher, has marked his first year in office with a detailed account of his administration’s achievements, pledging continued commitment to peace, unity, and development across the local government area.

Addressing journalists during a press conference held at the Council Secretariat on Friday, October 10, 2025, the chairman expressed gratitude to God and the people of Jos North for their unwavering support, describing the past year as one of “purposeful and transformational leadership.”

Barr. Kyohroh also appreciated Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang for his mentorship and the “Time is Now” vision that continues to inspire impactful grassroots governance. He commended his deputy, council officials, legislative arm, and party leadership for their cooperation and dedication to service delivery.

Infrastructure Development

According to the chairman, infrastructure development has been a central pillar of his administration. Major projects include the construction of the Rishari Buturah Smart Neighbourhood Market at Angwan Rukuba, aimed at boosting local commerce and promoting a safer trading environment, and the construction of a Police Outpost at Dong to enhance community policing.

The Jos North Legislative Chamber has been remodeled into a modern workspace, while a state-of-the-art ICT Centre was established within the council secretariat to support digital learning and e-governance. Other key interventions include the surfacing of Kabong Road, provision of a new 18-seater legislative bus, and an official car for the Deputy Chairman to enhance administrative efficiency.

Health, Education, and Youth Empowerment

Barr. Kyohroh noted that healthcare remains a top priority, with six Primary Healthcare Centres revitalized across six wards through collaborations with the BPHCDA and the World Bank Impact Project. Another four PHCs are currently being renovated under partnership with the Office of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In addition, the Jos North Skills Acquisition Centre has been rehabilitated to empower youths and persons with disabilities with vocational skills for self-reliance.

In the education sector, the council partnered with SUBEB to construct new classroom blocks in five schools, renovate 11 others, and drill boreholes in two schools. The local government is also carrying out massive renovations in seven additional primary schools. Furthermore, the council has supported the NSCDC’s Safe School Programme, ensuring a safer and more conducive learning environment.

Water Supply and Sanitation

The administration has also tackled water scarcity by rehabilitating over 40 boreholes across the 20 wards and, through collaboration with TASTE, restored over 150 additional boreholes, giving thousands of households access to clean water.

Under the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) initiative, the council has sustained monthly sanitation exercises, ensured regular payment of street sweepers, and maintained clean, healthy environments across urban and rural communities.

Agriculture and Food Security

To strengthen food production and support local farmers, the council procured over ten truckloads of fertilizer sold at subsidized rates — an initiative aimed at reducing input costs and encouraging greater participation in agriculture.

Social Welfare and Humanitarian Interventions

Highlighting his administration’s commitment to social welfare, Barr. Kyohroh revealed that over 800 bags of rice were distributed during Christmas, while rice, millet, and rams were shared among Muslim faithful during Ramadan and Eid celebrations. The council also sponsored pilgrims to the Holy Land, reflecting its inclusive and interfaith approach to governance.

In addition, financial and material support have been extended to residents for school fees, medical bills, and emergency relief, including assistance to victims of the Katako Market fire. The council’s Annual Unity Christmas Carol has become a platform promoting interfaith harmony and peaceful coexistence.

Security and Peace-Building

The Jos North chairman emphasized that security remains central to his administration. A Joint Non-Conventional Security Group has been established and equipped to support formal security agencies in addressing crimes such as gang violence.

The council continues to provide logistical and financial support to conventional security agencies and maintains a community watch network to protect public facilities. These measures, he noted, have contributed to the relative peace and stability currently enjoyed in Jos North.

Appreciation and Outlook

Barr. Kyohroh extended heartfelt appreciation to the PDP leadership, traditional rulers, religious leaders, security agencies, council staff, and the peace-loving people of Jos North for their trust and cooperation.

“As we mark one year of impactful governance,” he said, “we reaffirm our commitment to peace, unity, and sustainable development. Together, we have shown that progress is possible when leadership and the people work hand in hand.”

The chairman concluded by expressing optimism that the next phase of his administration will consolidate on the gains of the past year, making Jos North a model of accountable and inclusive local governance.
