Former Plateau State Governor, Jonah David Jang, has reaffirmed that Raymond Dabo remains the authentic chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, dismissing a recent congress conducted by a faction of the party.

In a statement issued on Sunday and signed by his Media Consultant, Comrade Clinton Garuba, Jang described the purported congress held in Jos as illegal and lacking legitimacy.

He alleged that the exercise was carried out by “self-seeking and power-hungry individuals” in collaboration with external forces, with the aim of discrediting the party in the state.

According to the statement, the existing State Working Committee of the PDP in Plateau was duly elected through a credible process monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and remains intact without any internal division.

Jang maintained that there was no justification for organizing another congress, insisting that all actions and outcomes from the said exercise are “null and void” both legally and politically.

The former governor acknowledged the ongoing crisis within the PDP at the national level, noting that party leaders are actively engaging in consultations to resolve the issues and restore unity.

He disclosed that he and other stakeholders have held a series of meetings in Abuja over the past two weeks, with further discussions expected to continue in the coming days.

Jang called on party members in Plateau State to remain calm, united and focused, expressing optimism that the crisis would soon be resolved.

He also cautioned individuals he described as “agents of distraction” to desist from actions capable of deepening divisions within the party.

Meanwhile, the controversy follows reports that a faction of the PDP, believed to be aligned with Nyesom Wike, recently conducted a parallel congress in Jos.

At the congress, Peter Tongshep was reportedly elected as factional chairman alongside other executive members.

The event, held at Three Angels Hotel in Rayfield, Jos, was attended by several stakeholders and conducted under tight security, further highlighting the deepening divisions within the Plateau PDP.

Jang urged all loyal members of the PDP in Plateau to remain steadfast and avoid actions that could further polarize the party, emphasizing the need for unity, dialogue and internal reconciliation. He stressed that genuine party members should focus on strengthening the party rather than engaging in activities that undermine its stability, reiterating that Plateau remains firmly PDP and that the leadership under Raymond Dabo is the only recognized structure in the state.
