A 50-year-old Indiana woman, Nathalie Rose Jones, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to “sacrificially kill” U.S. President Donald Trump after openly posting threats on Facebook.
Authorities said Jones was apprehended on Saturday, August 16, after traveling from New York to Washington, D.C., with the intent of carrying out her plan. In her social media post, where she tagged the FBI, Jones wrote that she was willing to “disembowel” the President, accusing him of causing “extreme and unnecessary loss of life” during the coronavirus pandemic.
Investigators revealed that Jones had a history of online threats against Trump, labeling his administration a dictatorship and referring to him as a terrorist. Federal prosecutors noted that unlike many prior threats against sitting or former presidents, Jones appeared determined to act on her words by making the trip to the nation’s capital.
She now faces multiple federal charges, including threatening to kill, kidnap, or inflict bodily harm on the President, as well as transmitting threats across state lines.
Responding to the case, D.C. U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said:
“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake—justice will be served. We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated law enforcement partners, especially the Secret Service Special Agents from New York and Washington, D.C., for their tireless commitment to protecting our leaders and our nation.”
The case is currently being investigated by the U.S. Secret Service, with prosecution led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Satter.
