An internally displaced person (IDP), identified as Terzungwe Orbam, has died after reportedly ingesting a poisonous substance in Jato Aka, Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State.
The deceased was said to be from Ikyoawen in Turan, a community affected by recurring security challenges that have displaced many residents.
Eyewitnesses said Orbam allegedly purchased the substance from an agrochemical shop in Jato Aka and consumed it shortly after.
He reportedly collapsed at the scene and died before medical help could be provided.
His remains have since been deposited in a mortuary.
The incident has sparked concern over the growing mental health challenges faced by internally displaced persons, with calls for increased support and intervention for vulnerable populations in affected communities.
