A 23-year-old student of the University of Jos, identified as David Nanpon Timmap, has been arrested by the police for allegedly killing his colleague, Peter Mata Mafurai, 22, and burying him in a shallow grave inside his room at Rusau village in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to reports, Timmap, a 300-level student, allegedly attacked and hacked Mafurai to death in his residence before attempting to conceal the crime by burying the victim within the same room.

Police operatives from the Laranto Division of the Plateau State Command, led by the Divisional Police Officer, arrested the suspect after receiving a distress call around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

“Upon receiving the report, the DPO immediately led a team of officers to the scene, where the suspect was apprehended,” a police source said.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect dug a shallow grave inside his room, where he buried the victim’s remains. The body has since been exhumed and deposited at the Bingham University Teaching Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that the suspect is in custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the motive behind the gruesome killing.
