Former Hollywood film producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being convicted of sexually assaulting former television production assistant Miriam Haley in New York in 2006.
Weinstein, 74, was sentenced on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following his conviction in a retrial over the case.
Haley, who worked as a production assistant on the reality television programme Project Runway, told the court that Weinstein sexually assaulted her at his Manhattan apartment after she rejected his advances.
During Wednesday’s sentencing, Haley delivered a victim impact statement, describing the lasting effect of the assault and the difficulties she said she had faced since coming forward.
Prosecutors had asked the court to impose a 20-year sentence, while Weinstein’s lawyers sought a shorter sentence, citing his age and health problems.
Before the sentence was handed down, Weinstein expressed remorse for Haley’s pain but continued to maintain his innocence.
“I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” he told the court.
Judge Curtis Farber sentenced Weinstein to 15 years, telling him that he had damaged his legacy by sexually assaulting Haley.
The latest sentence follows a lengthy legal battle. Weinstein was initially convicted in New York in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison, but the conviction was overturned by New York’s highest court in 2024, which ordered a new trial.
At the subsequent retrial, Weinstein was again convicted of a criminal sexual act involving Haley. Jurors acquitted him in another sexual assault case involving Kaja Sokola but were unable to reach a verdict on a separate rape charge involving Jessica Mann. Prosecutors later dropped that charge after another retrial ended without a verdict.
Weinstein, who was once one of Hollywood’s most powerful film producers, has said he plans to appeal the latest conviction and sentence. He is also serving a separate prison sentence in California following a rape conviction there.
