Unidentified gunmen have killed a comedian and media personality, Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as “Aiza Nwosu,” and another unidentified man in separate attacks in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The incidents occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, with both victims reportedly shot by assailants believed to be operating in the same vehicle.
Nwosu was attacked along S.M. Okeke Street in the Amaikwo area of Awka, while the second victim was shot along Capital City Road in Amaenyi.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Punch, the attackers, reportedly numbering three and travelling in a tinted vehicle, allegedly trailed Nwosu from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and shooting him.
An eyewitness said the assailants left Nwosu’s body inside his vehicle before proceeding to another location, where they allegedly shot the second victim by the roadside and dispossessed him of his belongings.
The assailants reportedly fired shots into the air as they fled, creating panic among residents in the affected areas.
The attacks have raised concerns over possible cult-related activities, although the motive for the killings has not been officially established.
Confirming the incident on Monday, August 31, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla carried out the attacks at the two locations.
The police said officers were immediately deployed after receiving distress calls and recovered the bodies of the victims from Capital City Road, Amaenyi, and S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo.
The victims were taken to a hospital, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
The police identified one of the victims as Isaac Nwosu, also known as “Aiza,” while the identity of the second victim remained unknown.
Operatives recovered N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers from the scenes.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, condemned the killings, describing them as unacceptable and a direct threat to the peace and security of the state.
He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The police have also intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and neighbouring areas as efforts continue to apprehend the perpetrators.
The command appealed to community leaders, residents, motorists, business owners and other members of the public who may have witnessed the attacks or have credible information about the suspects, their movements or the vehicle used in the operation to contact the police.
The police assured members of the public that information provided would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
