French Football suspends goal-line technology in France

Ligue de Football Professionnel on Thursday, confirmed that the
use of goal-line technology in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France and the
Coupe de la Ligue, has been suspended.

This comes after the system failed to signal two goals in the Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday.

“Last night unfortunately the GLT [goal-line technology] experienced
two serious malfunctions in the Amiens-PSG match – the GLT didn’t make
the referee’s watch vibrate and it was the video assistant who awarded
the goal – and a second incident in Angers-Montpellier where the GLT
wrongly caused the referee’s watch to vibrate.

“These two irregularities are unacceptable, especially as they occur
just after we put GoalControl on notice,” LFP director general, Didier
Quillot, said.

The LFP had already warned GoalControl, the company in charge of the system, about issues last month.

GoalControl was used at the 2014 World Cup, but the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A all use Hawk-Eye’s technology.
