Veteran NFL running back Miles Sanders has been arrested in Pennsylvania and charged with driving under the influence, according to court records.
Sanders, 29, was arrested on June 8 in Churchill Borough, near Pittsburgh and close to where he grew up. He was charged last week with driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance and careless driving.
According to police reports, officers found Sanders slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle that had stopped in the middle of the road. Police said he appeared to be “in and out of consciousness” when they approached the vehicle.
Authorities further alleged that Sanders performed poorly during a field sobriety test and had a strong smell of alcohol. Police said he admitted to drinking earlier in the day and subsequently tested positive for alcohol during a breath test.
Officers also reportedly found marijuana inside Sanders’ vehicle.
Sanders began his college football career at Penn State before being selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
He spent four seasons with the Eagles before joining the Carolina Panthers, where he played for two seasons. Sanders later joined the Dallas Cowboys and played for the team last year. He is currently a free agent with the 2026 NFL season scheduled to begin in two weeks.
Sanders’ attorney, Phil DiLucente, told CBS Pittsburgh that the matter is still at an early stage.
“This is a private matter that has not even reached the preliminary hearing stage and there will be no further comment,” DiLucente said.
Sanders is scheduled to return to court on October 28 for a preliminary hearing.
