Former Miss Universe Jamaica finalist and actress LaToya Malcolm has died at the age of 35.
The announcement was made by the Miss Universe Jamaica Organisation in a statement shared on its official Instagram page, where it paid tribute to the beauty queen and entertainer.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Miss Universe Jamaica alumna LaToya Malcolm, who proudly competed in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica Competition,” the organisation said.
“Our heartfelt condolences are with her family, friends, and loved ones. Rest peacefully, LaToya. You will never be forgotten.”
Malcolm was a finalist in the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica pageant and later won the 2024 Miss Jamaica Bikini International title.
Beyond pageantry, she built a successful career as an actress, entertainer and dance instructor, earning recognition for more than a decade of contributions to Jamaica’s entertainment industry.
Following her victory at the Miss Jamaica Bikini International competition, Malcolm dedicated the achievement to her late father, who had died earlier that year.
“My beloved father, Mr. Malcolm, this win was for you. Your one and only daughter continues to make you proud. I know you’re smiling down on me,” she wrote in an emotional social media post.
Malcolm was also actively involved in youth development through the Transition Project, an initiative focused on equipping adolescents with training and resources to help them navigate new opportunities.
Her passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, pageant officials and fans.
Reigning Miss Universe Jamaica, Gabrielle Henry, described Malcolm’s death as a significant loss to her family and the nation.
“To hear of LaToya’s passing is a great loss to her family and the wider community. Her impact will always be remembered and her voice will not be forgotten. Wishing her family my deepest condolences. May she rest in peace,” Henry wrote.
Many others also paid tribute on social media, remembering Malcolm for her resilience, kindness and determination, particularly during the 2024 Miss Universe Jamaica competition, which she participated in while grieving the loss of her father.
The cause of Malcolm’s death has not been disclosed.
