For years, Hon. Hitler Joshua Pwajok built his political reputation as a grassroots mobiliser, working behind the scenes to organise support for candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) across Plateau State. Today, he is seeking the mandate of the people himself.
Pwajok recently emerged as the PDP candidate for the Barkin Ladi State Constituency seat ahead of the 2027 general elections, marking a transition from campaign strategist to electoral contender.
His prominence within the party grew during the 2023 general elections when he served as Director-General of the youth-led Time Is Now campaign, a movement that mobilised thousands of young people and contributed significantly to the election of Barr. Caleb Mutfwang as Governor of Plateau State.
The campaign became one of the defining features of the PDP’s grassroots strategy, coordinating volunteers and expanding youth participation across communities in the state.
Following the elections, Pwajok continued to play a key role in the party’s grassroots activities, coordinating youth engagement and mobilisation efforts during elections and internal party programmes. His ability to organise support at the ward and community levels earned him recognition as one of the PDP’s leading grassroots mobilisers.
His appointment as Special Adviser on Youth Mobilisation and Engagement to Governor Mutfwang further expanded his public service portfolio.
In that capacity, he worked with youth organisations, student bodies, community leaders, civil society groups and development partners to promote youth participation in governance and strengthen engagement between government and young people across Plateau State.
Among the major initiatives implemented during his tenure was the Plateau Youth Agricultural Empowerment Programme (PYAEP), which engaged 1,000 youths from the state’s 17 local government areas in commercial farming at BARC Farms.
The programme brought together participants from different ethnic, religious and political backgrounds with the aim of creating employment opportunities, boosting agricultural production and promoting peaceful coexistence among young people.
Beyond government initiatives, Pwajok has continued to advocate for youth inclusion through leadership forums, stakeholder engagements and grassroots mobilisation, further establishing himself as a link between government and the youth population across Plateau State.
Now flying the PDP flag for the Barkin Ladi State House of Assembly seat, Pwajok says his campaign is built on years of grassroots engagement, public service and community development.
His campaign priorities include improving security, addressing youth unemployment, strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring effective representation for the people of Barkin Ladi.
Speaking after receiving his certificate of candidacy from the PDP’s Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee, Pwajok described his emergence as the fulfilment of a long-standing aspiration to serve his people.
He pledged to provide effective representation in the Plateau State House of Assembly while working to address the constituency’s security and economic challenges.
Pwajok also argued that the era of politics driven by unfulfilled promises should give way to leadership anchored on accountability, performance and measurable impact.
Expressing confidence in the PDP’s prospects ahead of the 2027 elections, he said the party, under its current leadership, remains united and committed to providing what he described as a progressive and people-centred alternative for the people of Barkin Ladi, Plateau State and Nigeria.
