Former Liverpool goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi and his wife were reportedly held at gunpoint when four masked intruders broke into their home in Spain, just hours before his club’s UEFA Champions League match against Napoli.
The 36-year-old Hungarian goalkeeper was at his residence in Puzol, north of Valencia, with his family when the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
According to reports, the intruders threatened Gulacsi and his wife, Diana Vigh, before forcing them to open a safe and surrender valuables. At least one of the couple’s two children was reportedly inside the property during the robbery.
The incident reportedly lasted about an hour before the suspects fled in two luxury vehicles. It remains unclear what was stolen, while investigators have yet to establish whether the weapons used were real firearms or replicas.
Fortunately, no member of the family was reported to have sustained physical injuries. However, the ordeal left Gulacsi shaken and unable to feature in Villarreal’s Champions League fixture against Napoli later that day. Brazilian goalkeeper Luiz Júnior took his place in the match.
Villarreal confirmed that the relevant authorities had been notified immediately and that investigations were underway. No arrests had been reported as of Wednesday, October 14.
Gulacsi joined Villarreal in August 2026 after leaving German club RB Leipzig, where he spent several years establishing himself as a first-choice goalkeeper. He previously joined Liverpool from MTK Budapest in 2007 but did not make a senior competitive appearance for the English club.
The robbery comes amid reports of burglaries targeting footballers’ homes in Spain, with authorities continuing investigations into several incidents involving professional players.
