FMC Abuja Says Staff Tried to Save Singer Nanyah After Fatal Snake Bite

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Abuja has responded to the death of singer Ifunanya Nwangene, popularly known as Nanyah, stating that medical staff made every effort to save her life after she was admitted following a snake bite.

The hospital explained that Nwangene arrived at the facility alive and was immediately attended to by doctors, but her condition worsened due to complications from the bite.

“Our medical team made every possible effort to stabilise her, but unfortunately, she did not survive,” the hospital said, also denying claims that the facility lacked anti-venom.

Nwangene passed away on Saturday at FMC Abuja. Her death was confirmed the following day by the Amemuso Choir, where she was a soprano singer. In a statement signed by the choir’s Music Director, Sam Ezugwu, the group said:

“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved soprano, Ifunanya Nwangene, also known as Nanyah. She died after complications from a snake bite.”

The singer was widely recognised within choral and gospel music circles for her vocal strength and dedication. Colleagues described her as a promising talent, whose sudden loss has left a deep void.

Since her death, tributes have continued to pour in from fans and members of the music community, expressing shock and mourning the unexpected tragedy. Further details surrounding the snake bite incident have not yet been officially disclosed.
